Tribunj

Tribunj, a small fishing village, is situated 15km far from Sibenik alongside the Adriatic tourist road directly on the sea. It was first mentioned in 1463 under the name of Tribahunj.

Old Tribunj is situated on the islet, during the Venetian reign it was surrounded by the defense wall the small remanants of which are still visible today. The church of St.Nicolas built in 1650 testifies its history together with the Jurjevgrad fort built in 1650 on St.Nicolas' hill as a protection from the Turks. They are important monuments as well as the church of The Virgin Mary on the road to Vodice from 1435.
The number of its inhabitants is 1400 and the settlement spread outside the islet long time ago but it is still connected to it by the stone bridge. Although the inhabitants traditionally occupy themselves with agriculture and fishing, they also deal with tourism, too. As they traditionally grow olives Tribunj is known for its production of high quality olive oil.
The fishermen from Tribunj supply daily the restaurants and their own homes with fresh fish, mussels and crabs.
For centuries Tribunj preserved its architectural heritage - typical Dalmatian environment: close built stone houses and narrow streets which attract not only tourists but artists, too who find their peace and inspiration here. The guests can use 1200 beds in private accomodation, apartments and campsites, while in the new, modern marina with a capacity of 270 berths, numerous yachts and sailing boats will find a safe berth. On the eastern and western coast out of Tribunj there are few beaches where, according to the regular examinations, sea is probably cleanest on the whole Adriatic. Among various summer entertainments,
a traditional donkey race should be pointed out as an action of preservation of this endangered animal. If we add the nearness of Murter and Vodice to everything that Tribunj has to offer, it becomes clear that it is a place for completely satisfying holiday.
