ACCOMMODATION IN CROATIA
Probably the most popular type of holiday lodging in Croatia along with hotels is private holiday accommodation( mainly private self-catering holiday apartments, private rooms for rent.etc.) and other types of holiday accommodation.
Other popular types of holiday accommodation in Croatia are different types of vacation rentals such as autocamps, rooms for rent, holiday villas for rent, lighthouses, etc.
The Republic of Croatia is situated in South-East Europe on the Adriatic sea.
The adriatic sea is part of the north meditteranean.
Croatia can be divided into 2 major tourism regions: the coastal region and the continental part,
with the coastal area being more significant as far as tourism is concerned.
The coastal area is divided into 3 larger regions:
-the peninsula of Istria (the largest penninsula on the Adriatic sea) lies on the north of the adriatic coast situated between the Gulf of Trieste and the bay of Kvarner,
-the region of Kvarner which is the wider coastal area around the city of Rijeka and is consisted of the Kvarner coastline with islands and the mountain range,
-and the historic region of Dalmatia (which is situated between the island of Rab in the north and the Gulf of Kotor in the south) and also can be divided into regions around the bigger cities or is simply divided into North, Central and South Dalmatia.
The croatian adriatic coast is renowned for its mild meditteranean climate, crystal clear sea and beautiful beaches.
The coast consists of over a thousand islands and with its large number of marinas is a haven for nautical tourism.
The croatian coastline with its many coves, hidden bays, cliffs, islands and channels is among the most indented on the Mediterranean.and is truely rich in beautiful unspoiled nature.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded beaches or are looking for a quiet family holiday then you can choose from over hundreds of smaller resorts where you can go swimming in natural surroundings on secluded beaches situated in small coves away from houses and the town centre.
If its the party scene you`re after then you can choose a more bigger town which has night clubs, discos, pubs, cafes, beach parties etc, or you can choose one of the more renowned tourist resorts famous for its vibrant night life and all night beach parties such as Zrce on the island of Pag, which is a favourite amongst younger tourists.
Many tourist places during the summer host all kinds of open-air parties and events, house and techno parties with the most popular Croatian and international DJ's, more traditional parties etc.
As far as holiday lodging is concerned Croatia offers an array of comfortable private holiday apartments and other types of holiday accommodation such as hotels, private villas for rent, Bed & Breakfast places, autocamps, and other types of vacation rentals, etc...
It is not called "the meditteranean as it once was" without a reason.
Central Dalmatia
Central Dalmatia is one of the Croatia's largest tourist regions. Because of its central position on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, this district has always had an extraordinary cultural and historical role. There are three large cities: three thousand year old city of Zadar, Šibenik with its Cathedral of St`Jacobs, Split - residence to the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Choose between larger places such as Trogir, Makarska or the tranquil holiday resorts on the Šibenik, Zadar and Makarska Rivieras.
The Velebit and Biokovo mountain ranges, the Paklenica, Krka and Kornati National Parks, wonderful speleological and diving locations, vineyards and olive groves - all of this and much more can be found in sunny Dalmatia.
Generous nature has garnished this rich and heterogeneous area with hidden bays, beaches, cliffs, emerald groves, sea straits and vast high seas.
Dalmatia`s islands are wide, with beautiful landscapes and hierarchies of bigger and smaller settlements. Croatia's coast with over 1100 islands is among the most indented on the Mediterranean, and is a favorite destination for tourists, especially boaters.
MAKARSKA
Makarska is the centre of the famous Makarska Riviera, extending from Brela in the west to Gradac in the east, in the total length of 60 km. The riviera is "squeezed" between Biokovo Mountain, protected as a nature park, and the sea, which at this place ranks among the clearest in the entire Mediterranean. Nice long beaches, a lot of greenery, olive-groves and pine forests, cultural and historical monuments, a number of hotels, restaurants, sports and recreational facilities - all this makes Makarska a very pleasant destination. Tourism has a years-long tradition here; the first hotel was built as early as 1914, and the Society for the Beautification of the Town was founded in 1922.Makarska has a rich cultural and historical heritage.
SPLIT
Split is not only an urban, cultural and traffic centre of Dalmatia with road and sea connections to Dalmatia's numerous summer resorts, but it is itself often a tourist and excursionists destination. A city with a 1700-year old tradition, a variety of archaeological, historical and cultural monuments, among which the well-known Palace of Diocletian, inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List, certainly occupies a special position, and the warmth and offer of a modern Mediterranean city. Split has a variety of restaurants and wine cellars, offering domestic specialities. There are many beaches and public beaches in the city and its surroundings.
